Family Literacy Day is a national awareness initiative created by ABC Life Literacy Canada in 1999 and held annually on January 27 to raise awareness of the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities as a family.

The Pitt Meadows Public Library and the Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Katzie Community Literacy Committee welcome you to Family Literacy Day. From the “Dirty Thirties” to the “Awesome Eighties” learn about the classic stories, games, and activities that reflect each decades’ uniqueness. Dress in your favourite decade costume and bring your family down to have some fun. Suitable for ages 0-100!
Elspeth Bowers, puppeteer extraordinaire, will be entertaining visitors to the Pitt Meadows Family Literacy Day with a show at 1:15 – 1:45 PM and another at 2:15 to 2:45 PM.

This year’s Family Literacy Day event with the Maple Ridge Public Library and the Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Katzie Community Literacy Committee, celebrates the story in all its forms, and will feature performances throughout the day by Lenard Stanga of Stories on Wheels. Join us for an afternoon of activities, snacks, contests, entertainment and prizes for all ages. Enthusiastic fiction fans can come dressed as their favourite fictional characters and compete for best costume honours. Everyone is welcome!
