 Volunteer Tutors

The Literacy Committee is working hard to help those struggling with literacy issues. As part of our services we match trained volunteer Tutors with Learners.

Our free Volunteer-Tutor Training Program that consists of six modules and covers:

  • Introduction to Literacy, Learners and Tutoring
  • Lesson Plans
  • Learning Disabilities and Challenges
  • Approaches to Teaching Reading
  • Approaches to Teaching Writing
  • Numeracy & Theme Plan Development

As a trained Volunteer Tutor, you will be provided ongoing support as you embark on your tutoring relationship(s). Tutors will report back to the literacy facilitator monthly and will have the opportunity to join in ongoing meetings that will celebrate achievements, and provide support and the opportunity to brainstorm teaching approaches with other tutors and our qualified teacher.
