Wine helps literacy… honest!

April 18th, 2013

So, here’s the thread of logic:

*Our drop-in literacy resource centre, Learning Room, is located within the CEED Centre.

**The CEED Centre is holding a fundraiser Cheers to the Planet! a celebration of organic, local and sustainably produced wine, beer and food.

***Cheers to the Planet! is held on Saturday April 27 from 6pm to 9pm at Meadowridge School which will be transformed into an elegant setting in which you can wander from display to display sampling some of the best local food, beers, and wine.   The $45 ticket includes food, drink, live music, and great silent-auction shopping.  No tax and no tipping – a great deal and wonderful event.

****You can help the CEED Centre AND the Literacy Committee by buying your ticket from Angie, Elaine or Shanti, because $5 from every ticket we sell will go toward supporting the Community Literacy Committee.

Therefore wine  helps … literacy!

Contact us for your tickets:

Please help us spread the word and tell your friends about this great opportunity to support local food/beer/wine producers, the CEED Centre and of course literacy….all with a glass of wine in your hand.

What makes for a perfect afternoon?

recycle poster outlineGetting a new book at a book swap and cuddling up on some comfy cushions to read stories together.

For centuries stories have been used to pass on the traditions and values that families and society consider to be valuable.  Stories – whether told to individuals or groups – form the basis of much of our communication with each other; stories build links, identify common threads, and help us share experiences.  Stories influence our lives.  Good stories engage us and keep us spellbound for hours.

Join the Maple Ridge Public Library and the Literacy Committee on Earth Day – April 20th from 10 AM – 2 PM at the Storytelling Tent at Earth Day.  Help the planet out, bring a book, and exchange it for a new-to-you book the Community Literacy table.   New reading material is just an exchange away.  Or, settle into a comfy cushion and listen to a story being read aloud by Randy Kamp at 11:30 AM, Marc Dalton at 12 PM, and Ernie Daykin at 1 PM as part of the Maple Ridge Library’s celebration of Earth Day.

For more information about the Storytelling Tent activities, contact Sarah from FVRL at (604) 467-7417 or Angie from the Community Literacy at 604. 476.2447.    To learn more about the schedule of storytelling sessions, visit
