Turn off the TV!

Turn off the TV and your school could win a SMART board.  School District 42 elementary classes are invited to take part in our Literacy Challenge.  Classrooms add up the time they spend on out-of-school literacy activities from October 15, 2012 to January 15, 2013.  The winning class gets a SMART board for their school and pizza and books for their classroom.  Other prizes to be won and lots of fun to be had.

New and Exciting Literacy Challenge

September 27th, 2012

The Literacy Challenge is back. The newly re-vamped Literacy Challenge encourages Teachers and Students to record time spent on out-of-school literacy activities – not related to school curriculum – as individuals, then  to compile the totals for submission to the Literacy Committee.  The Classroom with the highest number number of minutes per student between October 15, 2012 and January 15, 2013 will win a SMART board SBX885 (graciously donated by Sharp Audio Visual) for their school, a pizza lunch and books for their classroom.  Other prizes will be announced during the contest period.

Teachers who want their classrooms to participate, must first register for the Literacy Challenge, by emailing with the following information:

  • Teachers Name
  • Teachers phone number
  • School name
  • Classroom grade
  • Number of students in the classroom

The Community Literacy Committee will confirm each Teacher’s registration by return email.  To learn more about the Literacy Challenge check out these tools and resources:
